alvöru? What does it mean? How do I pronounce it?
alvöru…real women. real comfort. real cool. We are focused on the word 'real'. Because alvöru means 'real' in Icelandic, we thought the name was perfect as a brand of our coolwear clothes. Hope you agree.
It’s actually easier to pronounce than you might think…all-vu-ru.

What is so different about this fabric?
Developed for NASA to help regulate astronauts’ body temperatures while in space, Outlast® technology is proactive, using phase change materials (PCM) that absorb excess heat from your skin when you need it most for optimal thermal comfort. Think of the technology comparable to ice in a drink; as it changes from solid to liquid, it absorbs heat and cools the drink, keeping that drink at the desired temperature for longer. Thermocules® are the alvöru difference.
Does Outlast® technology make me warmer or cooler?
Outlast® technology is proactive technology that adapts and changes based on your personal situation. When you get hot, Outlast® technology absorbs heat. When you get cold, that heat is released. Outlast® technology balances your temperature proactively by managing heat to reduce overheating and perspiration.
I know about wicking fabrics, why is this better?
Outlast® technology is proactive rather than reactive. Many products claim to regulate temperature, but they actually manage moisture created by the skin. And by the time they start working, you’ve already experienced discomfort from overheating and perspiring. Outlast® phase change materials proactively absorb and store heat to manage heat thus managing moisture and reducing it.
Are there any special washing instructions for this "special" fabric?
Your alvöru coolwear will become your favorite clothes to wear! Wash on delicate cycle as you would other fine washables, with like colors, in cold water. No need to use any fabric softeners or softener sheets. Tumble dry on low heat or line dry, it’s as simple as that. The Themocules will not wash out or breakdown. Light touch up with low heat iron is also fine.
What are your recommendations to get a better nights’ sleep?
As with all textile products, you should wash your bedding prior to use. Keep your bedroom temperature at or below 65ºF (18ºC). Use the Outlast® technology bedding products as you normally would. Flannel sheets are acceptable for use during the cooler months. Place the lightweight comforter or blanket directly over your top sheet. Excessive layering of traditional sleep products is not recommended though duvet covers and lightweight bedspreads are acceptable. In all cases, the best results are obtained by building a cocoon of Outlast® technology products that include a minimum of a comforter, mattress pad and pillow.
People typically set their room temperature low at night then climb into bed and layer with covers. Heat radiating from the body is trapped beneath the covers and can prevent your body from cooling down, making it difficult to fall asleep. It is not uncommon for people to toss and turn as their bodies search for their comfort zone. The heat-absorbing Thermocules™ in Outlast® technology continually absorb, store and release excess body heat to keep the temperature and humidity within your bed in the optimum range for restful sleep. By eliminating temperature swings throughout the night, you are less likely to wake.
